Over the past few years, there has been tremendous excitement, as well as fear and worry, about rapid advances in technologies called "Artificial Intelligence" (AI). In this talk, I'll provide an introduction to AI and explain how it differs from traditional computing, give a brief history of AI and how humans have thought about automating intelligence, discuss the recent advances that have enabled powerful tools like ChatGPT, and reflect on how upcoming advances and uses of AI might benefit or harm humanity.
